Alkohol- oder Quecksilberthermometer mit zylindrischem Thermometergefäß und aufgesetzter Kapillare zur Bestimmung bioklimatischer Größen (Abkühlungsgröße, Behaglichkeitsziffer sowie kleiner Luftgeschwindigkeiten). Das Katathermometer wird zunächst im Wasserbad erwärmt, bis die Füllflüssigkeit über einem oberen Eichstrich bei 38 ºC steht, und dann trocken und schwingungsfrei im Prüfraum aufgehängt; anschließend wird die Sinkzeit des Thermometerfadens zwischen dem oberen Eichstrich und einem Eichstrich bei 35 ºC bestimmt; aus der Abkühlungsdauer und der Gerätekonstanten ergibt sich der Katawert.
